This amazing trail runs from the Alps to the Adriatic at a total length of 750kms. However, your walk will take you along the best parts from the heart of the Slovenian Alps to sunny vineyards on the Italian border.

Itinerary

Day 1 Kranjska Gora

Arrive this beautiful alpine town surrounded by the western Julian Alps.

Day 2 Kranjska Gora - Trenta‚ Vršič Pass (19 km)

Hike over Vršič, Slovenia's highest mountain pass accompanied by panoramic views of the Julian Alps. Descend to the Trenta Valley and follow the thundering Soča River.

Day 3 Trenta – Bovec (21 km)

Return to the Soča River to follow the trail of the same name through the Great Soča Gorge. This magical section is where part of the Chronicles of Narnia was filmed.

Day 4 Bovec - Dreznica‚ Boka Waterfall (23 km)

A day of waterfalls - pure alpine water flows down the Gljun River from the nearby Kanin Mountains and cascades into a multi-stranded waterfall 20m wide. Not to be outdone, Boka Waterfall, the biggest in Slovenia follows on. End in the little village of Dreznica, set high above the Isonzo valley, a scene of heavy fighting during WWl.

Day 5 Dreznica – Tolmin (21 km)

Join the ‘path of peace’, a memorial trail dedicated to the casualties of WW1, and runs through six outdoor museums and numerous chapels.

Day 6 Tolmin - Tribilj Superiore (19.5 km)

Hike via the Kolovrat Ridge where you will get breathtaking views of distant alpine summits on one side, and serene landscape stretching as far as the Adriatic on the other. The route takes you into Italy, along the famous Walk of Peace.

Day 7 Tribilj Superiore - Cividale del Friuli (23.4 km)

Leave the mountain villages through chestnut woods, old pasture land, and passing WW1 fortifications to reach the medieval pilgrimage town of Castelmonte. the oldest shrine in the region. The well-preserved sanctuary is one of the most magnificent churches of the former Aquileia.

Day 8 Cividale del Friuli

Arrangements end after breakfast or continue the Alpe Adria Train from CIVIDALE TO TRIESTE – please enquire

 

GRADE / TERRAIN

Challenging. There are different grade walks, from medium to hard, it features walks along mountain ridges, meadows and valley floors, slowly descending from north to south. This is a very picturesque alpine trail with stunning views at every turn and is suitable for experienced walkers with appropriate equipment. Total distance – 121 kms.
