Your JourneyDay 1 (Saturday) Arrive Santiago de Compostela and transfer from the airport to Sarria. Day 2 Sarria to Portomarin (22km, 6 hrs) Walk through pretty villages on quiet country roads. Visit the beautiful Romanesque church in the village of Barbedelo. Day 3 Portomarín to Palace do Rei (24km, 6.5 hrs) Cross the Minho River. Walk via Gonzar and the Romanesque Churches of Santa María and Eirexe. Day 4 Palace do Rei to Melide (14km, 3.5 hrs) Pass through the villages of Casanova and Leboreiro. Arrive at the lively market town of Meliode. Day 5 Melide to Arzùa (14km, 3.5 hrs) A forest track leads to the village of Boente, then via the medieval village of Ribadiso, to the small town of Arzùa. Day 6 Arzùa to Rua/Pedrouzo (18km, 3.5-4 hrs) Walk through woods, sleepy villages and along streams. Visit the chapel of Santa Irena. Continue on a quiet country road to Rua. Day 7 Rua/Pedrouzo to Santiago de Compostela (21km, 4.5 hrs) From Rua you will pass by Amenal, and continue to Lavacolla, where traditionally pilgrims washed themselves in the river before reaching Santiago de Compostela. Day 8 Depart Santiago de Compostela. Transfer to Airport. TerrainModerate and a reasonable level of fitness required with 5-7 hr walks (14-23 km) per day on good paths, with some steep climbs. Walk the final 100km of the Camino de Santiago. From Sarria the Camino enters woodlands, following paths lined with stone walls, and dirt tracks running through farmlands and hamlets.
The green undulating landscape of Galicia will be part of every day’s walk, until the final day when you reach the mythical city of Santiago de Compostela. By walking this final 100 km, and obtaining the stamps in your Camino Passport at appointed locations along the way, you can earn a “compostela”- or certificate of completion of the pilgrimage.
