Camino del Norte
Self Guided Tour - 5 Stages
The Northern Route is a beautiful walk along the Cantabrian Sea coast where charming fishing villages, beautiful seaside resorts, the rugged peaks of the Picos de Europa and classic towns, rich in art and history, line the route.
Sections were used by Christian pilgrims who arrived at Spanish northern ports by sea to make their way to the shrine of St James. This coastal route is becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to the French Route of the Camino de Santiago with cooling breezes in summer, dramatic landscapes and sandy beaches.
There is an option at Gijon to join the CAMINO PRIMITIVO ROUTE where roads and pathways are quieter and the countryside of Galicia and Asturias changes to a more lush green dotted with characterful stone villages and ecclesiastical monuments and buildings
