The region of Bordeaux and Gironde in the sun drenched, south-western part of France is one of the most beautiful and famous parts of the country.
This walking tour is is set in one of the most prestigious wine regions of France. Trails are through a countryside of vineyards and wine villages with famous names like Saint Emilion, Pomerol, Sauternes, Medoc and Margaux. There are not only opportunities to taste world class wine but also to explore UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Saint Emilion and Bordeaux. Cross the Entre-Deux-Mers area to discover charming medieval villages and many wine chateaux which adorn the beautiful landscape till you reach the vineyards of Sauternes.
A variety of accommodation types will ensure a typical French experience from charming guesthouses and 3* hotels, to a chateau in the heart of the vineyards.

Your Journey

Day 1 Arrive Bordeaux and transfer to Saint Emilion.

Day 2 Saint Emilion vineyards (10 or 15 km)

Circuit walk of the UNESCO World Heritage area of Saint Emilion, that has earned this distinction due to its cultural landscape dedicated to wine-making.

Day 3 Saint Emilion Guided Tours

Morning visit to one of the oldest wineries, the Convent des Jacobins followed by a wine-tasting of 3 – 4 great wines. Afternoon tour of the extensive underground monuments of the city dating from Roman times. Late afternoon transfer to a wine village in the Entre-Deux-Mers.

Day 4 St Martin de Lerm or Camiran to Caudrot (15 km)

The Entre-Deux-Mers lies between the Dordogne and Garonne Rivers. Walk on the vine-clad slopes above the Garonne Valley to the quaint village of Caudrot on the river bank.

Day 5 Caudrot to St Macaire (10 km)

Walk from Caudrot to the medieval town of St Macaire along the vines, past castles, and the estuary of the Gironde with its fisherman’s huts.

Day 6 Circuit walk St Macaire to Sainte Croix du Mont (8 or 16 km)

Circuit walk to Sainte Croix du Mont located in the heart of the area that produces sweet white wines. Return by road transfer to St Macaire or Sauternes.

Day 7 Sauternes to Barsac (15 km)

Walk on the left bank of the Garonne beside well-known wine producers such as Chateau La Tour Blanche, Chateau d'Yquem and Chateau Rayne Vigneau to Barsac. Possibility to spend the last night in an 18thC chateau (Superior option).

Day 8

Transfer after breakfast to Barsac train station.

Terrain

Easy with some undulations up to 100m. Daily walks between 10 – 16 km.

Meals

Breakfast daily, 4 dinners, 1 wine tasting.
