Lake Garda

Semi-Guided/Self Guided Tour - 8 Days / 7 Nights

Lake Garda is Italy’s largest lake and the pretty lakeside town of Riva del Garda, in the north, is the gateway to almost 800kms of walking and biking trails.
Enjoy 4 days of walking on this trip – 2 guided and 2 unguided days. We explore mountain refuges, walk along the lakeside promenade and pathways, through olive groves to villages and crag top castles. A highlight is the intact medieval village of Canale, one of Italy’s finest, perched high in the mountains with spell-binding vistas. End the week in the captivating Roman city of Verona. Attend opera in the ancient open air Teatro Romano or just explore the attractions of the Old Town.

Day 2 Shrine of Santa Barbara (Guided walk)

Explore this charming lakeside town of Riva del Garda. Visit the 12thC fort on the lake shore and the towering Apponale bell tower. Walk up a zig zag path stopping at a balcony for a picnic with spectacular views over the lake. A little farther on is the little altar of Santa Barbara. Descend to Riva.
Walking: Approximately 4 hours.

Day 3 Riva to Torbole

Walk along a flat shoreline promenade to the neighbouring village of Torbole to ascend to the Parco delle Busatte on the slopes of Monte Baldo. Hike along a nature route overlooking the lake then return the same route to Riva.

Day 4 Riva

Day free to relax in the beautiful atmosphere of Riva del Garda or take an optional walk to Lake Ledro along the Old Ponale Road and to the little village of Pregasina on a rocky perch above Lake Ledro (4 hours). Alternatively take the bus to Malcesine and ride the cable car to the top of Mount Baldo for spectacular views and a network of walks. From Malcesine take the ferry back to Riva or Torbole via the resort town of Limone. The ferries are a great way to explore the Lake.

Walk inland to Arco (approx. 1 hour). Once you reach Arco climb to the Castle of Arco, perched on a craggy peak above the town for wonderful panoramic views and a fascinating castle to explore. Continue further to the tiny village of Varignana or wander through olive groves to Bolognana. Tonight you stay in an ‘agritourismo’.
Walking approx. 1-3 hours.
